Dental Implants

Fortunately, dental implants are now quite simple to place and can appear indistinguishable from natural teeth when placed by experienced dentists at a reputable clinic such as Smile Hub Dental.

The Process

At Smile Hub Dental we implant teeth into the bone, giving them the same structural integrity as real teeth. This can help to protect your bone, keep your teeth in place, and keep your face looking good.

We exclusively use the highest-quality implants. Our implants are not only of the greatest quality, but they also have one of the quickest treatment times on the market.
Benefits include:

Quality

– Reduction in infection risk
– Maximum versatility
– Reduction in surgery time

Tooth Gaps

– Trauma, infection, failed root filling, and/or root fracture require tooth extraction.
– The crown keeps falling off, and/or there isn’t enough tooth remaining to secure it.
– Recurrent infections
– Permanent tooth loss since birth

Single implant-supported crown

– The dental implant has the same appearance and function as a natural tooth.
– There is no need to harm good teeth nearby.
– Continued use prevents jawbone resorption and shrinking.
– A tooth supported by a dental implant inhibits lateral movement of neighboring teeth and over-eruption of the opposing tooth.
– After surgery, traditional oral hygiene dental care has a very high and predictable long-term success rate.

Alternatives to Implants

Leave a Gap

– Unsightly

– May impair eating, smile, speech, confidence
– Bone and gum in the gap will shrink
– Positions of adjacent opposing teeth will be distorted over time

Conventional Bridge

– Healthy adjacent teeth need to be damaged to support the bridge
– Jawbone supporting the gum beneath will shrink due to lack of use
– Extra stress on supporting teeth during chewing

Multiple Tooth Implant

Dental implants with several teeth are more difficult to place, but Smile Hub Dental Clinic is up to the task! Multiple implant placement is usually done in two stages: first, the dentist places the dental implant and covers it with gum, then the dentist attaches an abutment afterwards.

Before the permanent foundation is installed, a temporary tooth replacement is usually installed, followed by a 3-6 month healing period. Patients are rarely bothered by the surgery, however.

Dental implants are the ideal treatment option for individuals who have several missing teeth, especially in the back of the mouth, where a dental implant will offer stability and allow you to eat whatever you want.

Problem: More than One Tooth Missing

– A faulty tooth-supported bridge or ill-fitting partial dentures
– Patient unable to chew properly and eat what he or she desires
– Food becomes lodged between your dentures, causing embarrassment or  – discomfort when you eat.
– Teeth that are loose or insufficient to sustain bridges

Permanently permanent bridge supported by dental implants is the solution.

– You can eat everything you want.
– Dental implants resemble natural teeth in appearance and function.
– No need to remove it to clean it because it is fixed in place.
– There is no need to harm healthy teeth nearby with this process.
– With proper dental hygiene and skilled care, it should last a lifetime.
– Keep the underlying bone from shrinking.

Alternatives to Implants

Replacement Tooth Supported Bridge

– This dental surgery can only be performed if both sides of the supporting teeth are still functional.
– Chewing tension is maintained on the supporting teeth, shortening their useful life.
– If supporting teeth are failing, it should be seen as a temporary solution.

Larger tooth-supported bridge

– Larger bridges place considerably greater strain on the teeth on each end of the bridge.
– A bridge may not be an option if the gap is near the back of the mouth.
– Periodically requires replacement.
– Due to lack of use, the bone beneath the bridge shrinks, producing a gap.

Partial Dentures

– Food entrapment beneath the denture during eating causes the bone and gum beneath the denture to shrink, making it loose and uncomfortable.
– The clips that hold the denture in place can cause harm to other teeth.

Leave a Gap

– When compared to a dental implant, it is unsightly.
– Eating, smiling, speaking, and confidence may be affected.
– In the gap, the bone and gum will shrink.
– Other issues can arise as the position of neighboring and opposing teeth shifts over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Sedation Dentistry feel like?

You will remain conscious and able to talk during your dental sedation in Smile Hub Dental Clinic. You will be able to understand and respond to our dental team. Intravenous sedation induces a state of deep relaxiation and you will be very comfortable throughout your dental treatment. The drugs used for sedation can cause partial or complete memory loss for the period of time that the drug is working until it wears off. You will feel that time passes quickly and you will not recall much about your dental treatment. You may in fact feel that you were ‘asleep’ during the procedure even though you weren’t.

Call us in Smile Hub Dental Clinic in North Dublin today or Book Online Now to arrange your nervous dental patient conscious sedation consultation.

Is local anaesthetic still needed?

Yes the drugs used for intravenous sedation are anti-anxiety drugs that relax you but you will still need to be numbed for your treatment. However, you will not be numbed until the intravenous sedation has taken effect. If you have a phobia of needles you will be really relaxed before the local anaesthetic injection is administered.

How is Sedation administered?

Intravenous sedation is administered into your vein. A thin needle is placed in your vein close to the skin in your arm or in the back of the hand. During the procedure your blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels will be closely monitored. A typical sedation appointment ususally lasts 90 minutes.

What drug is used for my sedation dentistry?

At Smile Hub Dental Clinic in Bayside Medical Centre we use a benzodiazepine called midazolam.
